Performance upgrade Mercedes-AMG SL 55 R232

707 PS (+231 PS) on production hardware with vehicle-specific Lambda‑GT calibration

From 476 to 707 PS. The potential lies in the application.

Lambda‑GT develops the SL 55 from 476 to 707 PS on its production hardware.

From the factory, the SL 55 is the most restrained model in the R232 range. The step to the SL 63 comes mainly from the application, not from fundamentally different drivetrain hardware: both use the same engine control unit, the Bosch MG1CP003 (MRG1V8). That is precisely where Lambda‑GT starts – turning the gap into usable power. Lambda‑GT presents further stages under Performance packages.

231 PS more – without replacing hardware.

The gap between the SL 55 and the SL 63 is essentially defined by boost pressure and torque request.

From the factory, the SL 55 runs with reduced boost pressure and a conservative torque request. Lambda‑GT uses this gap within the thermal and mechanical limits of the installed components. Power build-up and pedal map are reorganised in the process – for an even torque rise that stays calm and predictable in the open roadster.

Calibration

Individual Calibration: tailored to the specific SL 55.

At Lambda‑GT, not every SL 55 simply receives the same dataset.

Before calibration, the existing software and data version of the engine control unit is read out; model year, software version, emissions variant and equipment are taken into account. With an upgrade of this magnitude, the initial condition of the specific vehicle is particularly important.

Protective functions

The SL 55's standard protective functions are not deactivated for the additional power.

Knock control, exhaust gas temperature monitoring, component protection and limp-home strategies remain part of the engine management.

The greater the upgrade, the more important the functions that limit it. The 707 PS are calibrated within the system architecture that also underlies the SL 63 – instead of bypassing protective functions.

Data status & release

Developed, tested and documented – for the SL 55.

Lambda‑GT develops a coordinated calibration base for the R232 and adapts it to the data version of the specific SL 55.

Changes are developed against defined targets for performance, driveability and thermal behaviour, verified by measurement and documented. This keeps it traceable which data version is installed in the vehicle.

Engineering Validation

The calibration is not released after a single power run.

After calibration, Lambda‑GT tests the SL 55 under defined conditions: acceptance drive, power measurement and repeated load runs with evaluation of the temperatures.

Part load and steady cruising are also assessed – that is where a roadster spends most of its time.

Dyno Verified

707 PS are measured on the specific vehicle – not taken from a data sheet.

Every SL 55 calibrated by Lambda‑GT is measured on the in-house dyno after calibration.

The customer receives the certificate for their vehicle. With a gain of 231 PS, it is the decisive proof compared with a mere claim.

707 PS for the Mercedes-AMG SL 55 – individually calibrated, validated and measured on the dyno.

The Lambda‑GT calibration for the R232 combines the performance upgrade on production hardware with vehicle-specific calibration, technical validation and documented power measurement.

The calibration can also be extended with further functions or performance components – such as adjustments to start-up and idle behaviour or defined sound functions. In an open car, such functions are perceived more directly and are therefore set up with restraint. Examples can be found under Real vehicle projects and Personalised vehicle configurations.
